All that I am…

(a song)

Oh, that I could speak to crowds and make the multitudes cry out,

“Tell us more, we look to you, who speak the truth, without a doubt!”

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh, that I could sing and dance so beautifully, at every chance…

To stir the heart which sees and hears, a single note, or sway or prance…

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh, that I could paint the sky in brilliant colors, blended tones,

With the message of redemption: on the hillsides, trees and stones!

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh...that I could give oceans of treasures for your kingdom’s reign,

Make offerings and sacrifices spent to bring eternal gain!

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

What I bring is all I have.  ‘Tis but a drop to quench this fire.

If I could, I would bring more...for salve on unfulfilled desire.

You say, “Dear child, it is enough.  I understand—I surely should!

You are but dust.  I’m satisfied.  Yes, you did what you could!” 1., 2.

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

The Fence

On this fence

            again, I sit.

In vain I strive

            to get off of it.

In mind and body

            the battle rages—

Reminding me

            of sin’s wages. 1.

“Life and peace” 2.

            call from one side.

“There is joy and fruit,

for all who here abide.” 3.

“Empty promises!”

            Satan chides.

“Stand up for your rights!

            Climb down to our side.”

Who can deliver

            this slave-child, me?

God’s Son will indeed

            set this captive free! 4.

So, death to self,

            the flesh, and despair—

Vault the fence!

            Jesus is there!

Goals

Race against time,

            against tired and sick.

Accomplish my goals,

            hurry-up, quick!

Make the bed, dress,

            fix breakfast for all—

Have a “quiet time,” pray

I don’t end up like Saul.

No power, no wisdom,

            no Spirit to guide.

Instead of at peace—

            content by Your side.

My days are so busy,

            don’t let me forget—

My goal to love You

is the best goal I set.

Only Jesus

No man knows another’s pain. 1.

The Bible’s words are true.

I have no trusted confidants

Sweet Jesus—only You.

It is not right to air my woes

Like clothes out on the line—

Seeking comfort, pity, hope,

From passing friends of mine.

The world can offer me no help,

And even “Christian brethren”

Do not always share the words

Or the wisdom of Heaven.

Plus, the end result, I’ve learned,

Is that I suffer more…

Looking like the Proverbs pig

With golden ring adorned. 2.

Dear Jesus, be my confidant,

My sympathetic friend, 3.

My strength and song, my comforter... 4.

‘Til sweet or bitter end.

Morning Quiet Time

“Rise and Shine!” Oh, it is hard!

            To face another day—

My pillow’s like a lonely friend

            Who beckons me to stay.

“Do not rise!”  My eyes complain,

            While fighting to stay shut.

My covers make a warm cocoon,

            My bed, a comfortable rut.

Slippered feet—my only help,

            They shuffle toward the door;

Past the clock, to my robe,

They help me win the war.

To the light, now the sink,

            Wash those eyes, then go

To the room where Jesus waits,

His love for me, to show.

Secrets that He longs to share

            And treasures rich and sweet,

Greet me in His Holy Book,

            When My Lord, I meet.

“Help me Jesus,” this I pray,

            “To overcome my flesh.”

Every day I must be strong

            And feed my spirit afresh.

Prayer is Like…

Prayer is like an explanation.

Sometimes it’s detailed, sometimes it’s vague.

Sometimes it’s a relief, sometimes it’s an excuse.

Prayer is like sleep.

Sometimes it’s refreshing, sometimes it’s restless.

Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s light.

Prayer is like a routine.

Sometimes it’s natural, sometimes it’s coached.

Sometimes it’s a burden, sometimes it’s a choice.

Prayer is like a friendship.

Sometimes it speaks, sometimes it listens.

Sometimes it gives, sometimes it receives.

Prayer is like love.

Sometimes it laughs, sometimes it cries.

Sometimes it’s exciting, sometimes it’s boring.

Prayer is like poetry.

Sometimes it’s encouraging, sometimes it’s not.

Sometimes you understand it, sometimes you don’t.

Prayer is like life.

Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s work.

Sometimes it’s with others, sometimes it’s in solitude.

Prayer is like eating.

Some answers are sweet, some answers are sour.

Some fill you up, some leave you still hungry.

Prayer is like a vacation.

Sometimes the best part is just getting away.

Sometimes the best part is just the company.

‘Til the End of My Life

(a song)

When I look at nature—grand,

At the beauty of this land,

See colors magnificently planned,

Lord, my heart cries out to You...

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

When I look at history, how

You reach out ever faithfully,

Redeeming sinners...even me!

Lord, I see Your great love and plan.

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

Sometimes, Your voice seems so low,

I can’t hear the way I should go,

And impatience is my greatest foe

‘Til I rest in Your sovereignty, so…

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

Whether blessings of Your love,

Or, the trials which life is made of,

Come to me in waves from above,

Lord, Your servant, I’ll ever be, and…

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

Once Again

(a song)

I had such great plans

To do all Your commands,

But my great love affair

Was distracted with care.

I confess, I’ve not followed You.

I confess, I’ve not trusted You.

In a moment I quickly

Betray You for pride,

Claiming rights for myself

When my shame I should hide.

I confess, I’ve not followed You.

I confess, I’ve not trusted You.

Lord, increase my faith

Teach me humbly to wait

For Your power and Your grace

‘Til the Spirit I taste.

Once again, I confess my sin.

Take me back, to where we begin…

                        Lead me Lord…

Love of My Life

(a song)

Who is the One who has set my soul free?

Has forgiven my sins for all eternity?

Who is the One who has made me brand new,

Put love in my heart and compassion for you?

You are my joy-God, Jesus; the love of my life!

You fill me up to overflowing each day.

You are my joy-God, Jesus the love of my life!

I want to please You, Lord, in every way.

Who gives me joy and who gives me peace?

Who is the One who gives my worries release?

Wh0 is the One who shows me the way?

Gives meaning to life and blessings each day?

You are my joy-God, Jesus; the love of my life!

You fill me up to overflowing each day.

You are my joy-God, Jesus the love of my life!

I want to please You, Lord, in every way.

Sweet Communion

(a song)

Mornings, I come to you—

As a deer would drink from streams of blue,

And You fill my cup

Until it overflows with grace…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Daily, I thank you, Lord—

For the life of faith You lead me toward.

I feel your power within,

To make my failing heart be strong…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Evenings, I rest in You—

And reflect upon Your Spirit who,

Has provided for me

And who has guided me in Your ways…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Good times, are a joy to see—

For I know the One encircling me.

And yet, whatever may come,

I know Your love for me is real…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Sometimes

(a song)

Sometimes—life seems hard,

            a heavy load to bear.

Sometimes—life is cruel,

            bitter and unfair.

But, Jesus is real—

            His grace and mercy heal.

His Word renews my mind and makes me whole.

Sometimes—all my friends,

            just do not understand.

Sometimes—they can’t see

            my aching heart’s demands.

But, my Creator knows—

            my struggles and my woes.

He lifts me up with faith, hope and love.

Sometimes—in the day,

            my soul begins to cry.

Sometimes—in the night,

my mind does not know why.

But yet, the Spirit sees—

            His comfort brings release.

He holds me close and whispers songs of joy.

Returning

No Secrets to share,

            or burdens to bear—

No gentle communion of hearts.

What happened to

            the great love we knew,

And nourished from the start?

Sweet memories—haunting,

            their return, I am wanting;

How close we used to be!

You—whom I knew so well,

            abandoned—for a spell!

Lord, please forgive me.

I am back dear friend,

            let me love You again.

Wash me, cleanse me anew.

You have stayed the same,

            “Faithful” is Your name.

Heal me, and love me, too.
