Missionary Call

Who are you to pressure my son? You don’t know if God wills him to come!

He is vulnerable, eager to please, naïve! If you say it is so, he will blindly believe.

What does he know of counting the cost? To an idealist, the meaning is lost.

Jesus says to give up our lives for His sake. When I gave him to you, was it a mistake?

I’m cynical, tired, burned, and too wise, to give platitudes and ignore my heart cries.

Annoyed, fearful, hesitant, protective. I admit, I’m feeling overly reactive.

What kind of disciple of Christ am I? (I don’t want my young son to die.)

So I’ll bristle and argue, against man’s vision, to sign him up for the Great Commission.

I just want him to hear the Spirit’s voice. Then, make his own independent choice.

Or, maybe I just want him to delay, or go someplace safer, not so far away.

Maybe I’m tired of manipulative men, who seek to control, again and again.

It’s not about missions I am upset. It’s that I’m not ready to let go, yet.

I must stop looking with mere human eyes. The Lord is loving, all good, and wise.

Stronger than words from persuasive men. By prayer, the Lord’s plan will transcend

and lead the one I can’t keep as my own—to His Father’s will, now that he’s full grown.

Bed Time

Give up!!

Give in—

Going to bed

is NOT a sin!

God’s will,

He would say,

is “Just let go

of today.”

“I’ll give you rest,” 1.

the Lord is pleading.

“Don’t resist

the Spirit’s leading.” 2.

He’s not alarmed

the day is gone.

My agenda

was too long.

My ugly pride

makes harsh demands.

Relax!  “My times

are in His hands.” 3.

Your Will Is Peace

“On earth, as in Heaven,”

may “Your will be done.” 1.

         Your will is faith…

                  through Jesus, Your Son. 2.

Your will is love. 3.

Your will is peace. 4.

         When I focus on this,

                  my stress factors cease.

No ‘rights’ will I keep.

They are all Yours to take.

         My life’s in Your hands.

                  I submit, for Jesus’ sake.

Good Plans

I know God has good plans for you

I know not when nor where,

But, when the fog has cleared away,

God’s handprints will be there.

He has “prepared good works” for you 1.

To walk in them, I know—

Why else would He give you His gifts, 2.

Unless they’re meant to show?

The hard part is the waiting,

Yes, until the path is clear—

Not running ahead in darkness.

Nor succumbing to your fears.

I know God has good plans for you,

Because our God is good, 3.

Patient, kind, compassionate, 4.

He loves like a good Father would.

Another Way?

Isn’t there another way

To learn this lesson, Lord?

Did I appear rebellious,

Discontented or bored?

If so, I didn’t mean it!

Forgive me for this slip.

Please take away this trial;

It’s a bitter cup to sip!

Oh dear, this is not right—

For me to plead and whine.

Remind me just to pray, “Lord,

Not my will, but Thine.” 1.

Thy Will Be Done

(a song)

In my life may others see—

The light of Christ shining bright in me.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.” 1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

Work Your will into where I go—

What I think or say, and the deeds that show.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.” 1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

When my heart disappointment sees,

May I mean these words while I’m on my knees:

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.” 1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

As my life goes from “dust to dust,”

May my honest thoughts show undying trust.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.” 1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

Day Dreams

(a song)

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

Of future years, the joy and tears—

                        Yet to see.

I long to know, where will I go?

                        Who will I be?

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

God will I see, Your plan for me—

                        Day by day?

Sometimes I fear, but You are near—

                        Just lead the way.

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

My later life, husband and wife—

                        Will there be?

Single or pair, Your will is fair—

                        I trust in Thee.

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

What God Ordains

What God ordains is sometimes a surprise—

It’s better than what charms my wandering eyes!

I wonder and wrestle and over-analyze,

While His plan is simple, all-loving and wise.

Oh, teach me to gaze at your face alone—

To run to your side and make Heaven my home.

Yes, teach me to rest in Your perfect care,

And at your throne, to place anxiousness there.

Tear out my pride which says, “I would be Lord.”

That price is more costly than I can afford.

What can one gain in exchange for control?

Supplanting my Father brings leanness of soul.

What you ordain Lord, in my heart I know…

Is where I am happiest; where I must go.

What freedom is mine if I quickly agree,

My Maker knows best and does really love me!
