Songs

All of the songs on this page are duplicates from the "Poems" pages. They are listed in the index below in alphabetical order by title, so as to be easier to find.  The apparent crazy numbering in the index is explained by the fact that the number of each song corresponds to its chronological order, with the first song I ever wrote being #1.  Therefore, the song most recently written will always be the highest number, and posted at the top of the page, just below the Alphabetical Song Index. As you continue to scroll down, the rest follow, in descending order.  Topics in parentheses, after each song title, indicate where the first copy of each song is located in the "Poems" section. Additionally, the category gives you a general idea of the song's theme.

All of these songs have a tune I composed, associated with them, along with a few guitar chords. If you have an interest in using any of these songs as music (versus poems), with either my, or your own score, please contact me at gratefulsue@gmail.com.

The song, So Much More (# 26), was specifically written to be used in conjunction with the drama, Christmas Mystery--a man and more... highlighted on the Drama  page of this web site.

“Born again,” again!

(a song)

Honey, you were “born again,” 1.   again!   You were “born again,” 1.  again!

And, your second, “second birth” 2.  was even more beautiful than the first.

For, the truths learned at the start—now touched your heart.

You truly changed your mind.  Not a sweeter man could I find.

Compassion and concern came from your heart.

Your brokenness brought life; a new reason for your fight.

You had wounds to mend, forgiveness to impart.

Your prayers were for your friends, not for selfish wants or ends.

Every day you prayed with love for all in need.

Gratitude became your theme; patience—a player on your team.

Gentle words became the fiber of your creed.

Honey, you were “born again,” 1.  again!   You were “born again,” 1.  again!

And, your second, “second birth” 2.  was even more beautiful than the first.

For, the truths learned at the start—now touched your heart.

There was no more place to hide.   God broke through fears, hurts and pride.

And your greatest trial became your greatest friend!

Though we’re sad you had to go, you left us the peace you’d come to know.

The flower of suff’ring gave your life a fragrant end.

Although the timing seemed quite slow... (mysteries are tough to know)

God’s miracles and “higher ways” 3.   deserve my praise!

Honey, you were “born again,” 1.  again!   You were “born again,” 1.  again!

And, your second, “second birth” 2.  was even more beautiful than the first.

For, the truths learned at the start—now touched your heart.

All that I am…

(a song)

Oh, that I could speak to crowds and make the multitudes cry out,

“Tell us more, we look to you, who speak the truth, without a doubt!”

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh, that I could sing and dance so beautifully, at every chance…

To stir the heart which sees and hears, a single note, or sway or prance…

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh, that I could paint the sky in brilliant colors, blended tones,

With the message of redemption: on the hillsides, trees and stones!

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

Oh...that I could give oceans of treasures for your kingdom’s reign,

Make offerings and sacrifices spent to bring eternal gain!

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

What I bring is all I have.  ‘Tis but a drop to quench this fire.

If I could, I would bring more...for salve on unfulfilled desire.

You say, “Dear child, it is enough.  I understand—I surely should!

You are but dust.  I’m satisfied.  Yes, you did what you could!”   1., 2.

I’ll give my all for you,

Do my best for you,

Win my world for you,

Sing my song for you.

So Much More

(A song – duet)

(Soloist A)

Who is this man?  This Jesus of old?

Do you believe the story that’s told?

                        (Soloist B)

Some say he’s a mad man, or even worse,

A blasphemer, demon, or under a curse—

Who is this man? This Jesus of old?

Do you believe the story that’s told?

Some say, “John the Baptist,” or “a prophet of God,

Come back to life” but to me, this seems flawed—

Who is this man? This Jesus of old?

Do you believe the story that’s told?

He’s just a man, like anyone else.

He lived and died, he had no wealth.

He did much good, but was no diety,

“Love God and man…” his philosophy—

No, that’s not right, He is so much more!

Both God and Son, it was your sins He bore.

No, that’s not all, He is not just a man.

He’s the Christ of God, from eternity’s plan.

Even death and demons, to Jesus obeyed.

He was given authority—to send them away.

He healed the sick; feared no one on earth.

Loved young and old, gave the least of them worth.

He spoke words of truth like none had before,

Rose from the grave.  This…you cannot ignore.

Jesus is more!  He is so much more!

Both God and Son, it was your sins He bore.

Jesus is More!  He is not just a man.

He’s the Christ of God, from eternity’s plan.

(Both)   Jesus is more!  He is so much more!

Both God and Son, it was my sins He bore.

Jesus is More!  He is not just a man.

He’s the Christ of God, from eternity’s plan.

It’s a mystery: how God could be man,

My Savior, the sacrificial lamb.

Who is this man? This Jesus of old?

Do I believe the story that’s told?

Enough Time

(a song)

There was not enough time,

            To say “I love you.”

Not enough time

            To be with you.

There was not enough time,

To feel your arm in mine.

That’s how love feels,

            That’s how it goes—

When you love someone

            Your heart always knows.

Time is never enough

To let it end this way!

This world is fading,

            Passing by.

Though it has some pleasures,

            I know that I

Will be ready to go—

            Ready to be with you!

Then, there’ll be enough time…

            To say, “I love you.”

Be enough time,

Just to be with you.

There will be enough time

To feel your arm in mine.

Thy Will Be Done

(a song)

In my life may others see—

The light of Christ shining bright in me.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.”   1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

Work Your will into where I go—

What I think or say, and the deeds that show.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.”   1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

When my heart disappointment sees,

May I mean these words while I’m on my knees:

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.”   1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

As my life goes from “dust to dust,”

May my honest thoughts show undying trust.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

“Not mine own, but Thine be done.”   1.

Thy will be done, thy will be done.

My desire is that You glorify Your Son.

His Good Gifts

(a song)

He gave me forgiveness of sin—

And guaranteed life from the dead.

His Son I may now call my friend—

For I trust in the blood which He shed.

The Lord has been good to me.

Be quiet and still, O my soul…

The Lord has been good to me,

It is He I will praise and extol.

His Spirit now lives in my heart—

Replacing my striving with peace,

Producing new purpose and life,

And a faith which may daily increase.

The Lord has been good to me.

Be quiet and still, O my soul…

The Lord has been good to me,

It is He I will praise and extol.

‘Til the End of My Life

(a song)

When I look at nature—grand,

At the beauty of this land,

See colors magnificently planned,

Lord, my heart cries out to You...

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

When I look at history, how

You reach out ever faithfully,

Redeeming sinners...even me!

Lord, I see Your great love and plan.

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

Sometimes, Your voice seems so low,

I can’t hear the way I should go,

And impatience is my greatest foe

‘Til I rest in Your sovereignty, so…

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

Whether blessings of Your love,

Or, the trials which life is made of,

Come to me in waves from above,

Lord, Your servant, I’ll ever be, and…

‘Til the end of my life, Lord, let me sing praises.

‘Til the end of my days, let me live for your glory.

‘Til I die or ‘til You come, Lord, I want to walk with Jesus.

Show me how.  Please wait for me…and I’ll wait on You.

The Reason For It All

(a song)

Easter bonnets are for little girls.

Colored eggs for the kids to run and find.

Easter lilies brighten up the hall

But, my Jesus is the reason for it all.

            He is God, and

That’s who He claimed to be.   1.

            Not just a man

                         Who appeared in history.

            He arose from the grave

                        And death’s cold grasp.

            He’s ALIVE!   2.

And He offers life that lasts…

We sing lovely songs and hymns at church

That make us feel so close to God above.

We wear new clothes we bought just for today—

But, is Easter more than just a holiday?

            He is God, and

That’s who He claimed to be.   1.

            Not just a man

                         Who appeared in history.

            He arose from the grave

                        And death’s cold grasp.

            He’s ALIVE!   2.

And He offers life that lasts…

All you need is to come to Him in faith.

Trust in Him, and your sins He will erase.

Just decide if you think His claims are true

Then accept the gift which Jesus bought for you.

            He is God, and

That’s who He claimed to be.   1.

            Not just a man

                         Who appeared in history.

            He arose from the grave

                        And death’s cold grasp.

            He’s ALIVE!   2.

And He offers life that lasts…

Once Again

(a song)

I had such great plans

To do all Your commands,

But my great love affair

Was distracted with care.

I confess, I’ve not followed You.

I confess, I’ve not trusted You.

In a moment I quickly

Betray You for pride,

Claiming rights for myself

When my shame I should hide.

I confess, I’ve not followed You.

I confess, I’ve not trusted You.

Lord, increase my faith

Teach me humbly to wait

For Your power and Your grace

‘Til the Spirit I taste.

Once again, I confess my sin.

Take me back, to where we begin…

                        Lead me Lord…

Wherever You Lead

(a chorus)

I’ll follow You, Lord

            Wherever You lead

I don’t have to know where

            I’ll end, just believe!

For right are Your ways

            And faithful Your love

My LORD,

            The Magnificent One!

Together

(a song)

Who will search for me, if I start to stray?

And, who will be my guide, if I lose the way?

Who will encourage me when I am down?
And, who will be my friend when family’s not around?

Yes, I do need you; And, I think you need me!

            Won’t you come and take my hand;

No man can be an island.

Between the brethren, Christ prayed for unity.

One faith, one Lord, one family.

                        Together, joyfully!

Who can appreciate my answers to prayer?

I really do need to know that you care.

Who will rejoice with me since our God is so good?

Will you laugh and cry with me, as you should?

Yes, I do need you; And, I think you need me!

            Won’t you come and take my hand;

No man can be an island.

Between the brethren, Christ prayed for unity.

One faith, one Lord, one family.

                        Together, joyfully!

Who will be the one to pray for you today?

And who will help you study Scripture every day?

Who’ll give time and energy to serve our fellow man?

Who will help you share our Savior’s love with whom you can?

Yes, I do need you; And, I think you need me!

            Won’t you come and take my hand;

No man can be an island.

Between the brethren, Christ prayed for unity.

One faith, one Lord, one family.

                        Together, joyfully!

Show me

(a song)

Show me a man who really knows how to love and how to give,

Show me a woman who has nothing to fear,

And I will show you who; yes, I will show you two,

Who love the Lord, in all that they say and do!

            Your Word—so lovely,

            Your Word—so true…

Says we should be the light of the world,

So, help us shine for You!

Show me a church where Jesus Christ is truly glorified,

Show me the families unified in love,

And I will show you who; yes, I will show you a few,

Who serve the Lord, in all that they say and do!

            Your Word—so lovely,

            Your Word—so true…

Says we should be the light of the world,

So, help us shine for You!

Show me a people without crime and loving their fellow man,

Show me a nation consecrated to God,

Then, come and take my hand, and I will show you a land,

Where God is praised, and Jesus is in command!

            Your Word—so lovely,

            Your Word—so true…

Says we should be the light of the world,

So, help us shine for You!

            Lord, help us learn to love You;

Lord, show us how to serve You...more.

Love of My Life

(a song)

Who is the One who has set my soul free?

Has forgiven my sins for all eternity?

Who is the One who has made me brand new,

Put love in my heart and compassion for you?

You are my joy-God, Jesus; the love of my life!

You fill me up to overflowing each day.

You are my joy-God, Jesus the love of my life!

I want to please You, Lord, in every way.

Who gives me joy and who gives me peace?

Who is the One who gives my worries release?

Who is the One who shows me the way?

Gives meaning to life and blessings each day?

You are my joy-God, Jesus; the love of my life!

You fill me up to overflowing each day.

You are my joy-God, Jesus the love of my life!

Believing God

(a song)

Believing God is hard to choose

when I’m so full of fear.

I look around, look at myself

and just break down in tears.

So many problems to worry about

the future for my life is so unclear.

But, if I turn my focus around,

By faith conclude my fears are unsound…

God responds to people who believe that He’s Himself.

Full of wisdom, power, grace.  Not weak, or something else...

God responds to people who believe that He’s Himself.

God is honored when I choose to trust in Him…and not myself.

Believing God is easy to do,

if I just know His Son.

And knowing Jesus takes some time;

     I feel I’ve just begun.

So, that’s what I’ll do, the rest of my life.

Knowing His Word will bind us as one.

So, while I’m growing, God help me stay,

Closer to Jesus’ side, I pray…

God responds to people who believe that He’s Himself.

Full of wisdom, power, grace.  Not weak, or something else...

God responds to people who believe that He’s Himself.

God is honored when I choose to trust in Him…and not myself.

Wavering

(a song)

I will trust in You, Lord.

I will trust in You, Lord.

Not because it is easy, but it’s right—

Please forgive me for wavering tonight—

            I need Your light!

You are a God who is faithful and true,

Caring and patient in all that you do.

So, why won’t I simply rest easy in You?

Steadfast allegiance is long overdue!

I will trust in You, Lord.

I will trust in You, Lord.

Not because it is easy, but it’s right—

Please forgive me for wavering tonight—

            I need Your light!

Summer Time

(a song)

Evening haze, a fuzzy sun,

the world is like an old re-run.

     It’s moving slow

     and don’t you know

     it’s summer time!

The air is thick—so still and hot.

It hangs around your favorite spot,

     and that certain smell

     you know so well

     says it’s summer time!

What a relief from winter’s freezes,

you can enjoy warm and gentle breezes.

     No more frozen toes

     because, you know

     it’s summer time!

Oh, that days could stay this way—

singin’ silly songs, drinkin’ lemonade.

     You know my heart

     rarely falls apart

     when it’s summer time!

Let’s reminisce—o’er days of childhood bliss.

Let’s all get a tan, or else crowd a fan!

     Oh, I pledge to surely

     really love this pearly

     old summer time!

Sweet Communion

(a song)

Mornings, I come to you—

As a deer would drink from streams of blue,

And You fill my cup

Until it overflows with grace…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Daily, I thank you, Lord—

For the life of faith You lead me toward.

I feel your power within,

To make my failing heart be strong…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Evenings, I rest in You—

And reflect upon Your Spirit who,

Has provided for me

And who has guided me in Your ways…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Good times, are a joy to see—

For I know the One encircling me.

And yet, whatever may come,

I know Your love for me is real…

And, Oh, the sweet communion of living in You,

Being filled with Your Spirit and made “bran-new,”

To think that all this blessing comes freely from You!

            I love You, Lord!

Easter Offer

(a song)

Snow is melting from the earth

Springtime’s a comin’, the earth’s rebirth.

So don’t be so sad; it’s miracle time—

When flowers bloom and spirits climb!

And, I know a man who died for you.

He came to prove His love was true.

            Easter morning cries,

                        “His grave’s opened wide!”

                                    We, like Him, will rise!

                        Hallelujah! Victory!

Won’t you trust in Him who will set you free?

Now is the time that your heart can see

                        New life, that lasts eternally.

            Easter morning cries,

                        “His grave’s opened wide!”

                                    We, like Him, will rise!

Sometimes

(a song)

Sometimes—life seems hard,

            a heavy load to bare.

Sometimes—life is cruel,

            bitter and unfair.

But, Jesus is real—

            His grace and mercy heal.

His Word renews my mind and makes me whole.

Sometimes—all my friends,

            just do not understand.

Sometimes—they can’t see

            my aching heart’s demands.

But, my Creator knows—

            my struggles and my woes.

He lifts me up with faith, hope and love.

Sometimes—in the day,

            my soul begins to cry.

Sometimes—in the night,

my mind does not know why.

But yet, the Spirit sees—

            His comfort brings release.

He holds me close and whispers songs of joy.

Life and Death

(a song)

I saw a man have a heart attack today.

It really wasn’t funny you know…

Ambulance sirens, relatives cryin’,

Crowds takin’ in the “show.”

And I thought that if Jesus were here today,

            He could calm my heart.

He would have something to teach me now,

And this is how He’d start:

“Life is precious; hold it dear!

                        Thank God for each day!

I have given you eternal life,

Tell the world about my love…

I saw a man have a heart attack today.

It really wasn’t funny you know…

Ambulance sirens, relatives cryin’,

Crowds takin’ in the “show.”

Then, I thought that since Jesus is here today,

            Living in my heart,

I can be used to give words of hope,

And this is how I’ll start:

“Life is precious; hold it dear!

                        Thank God for each day!

Jesus wants to give eternal life,

Do you know about His love?...”

The One Who Does Not Change

(a Song)

Sometimes I fail to gaze at You

and rest my mind there, too.

Instead I stare at earthly cares,

and let them rule what I do.

But, that’s not how I’m meant to be,

You came to set me free.

Forgive me, Lord, when I can’t see

My life in light of eternity!

                 Praise His blessed name,

The One who does not change.

                 And, love Him, all people.

Your faithfulness is like a mother’s

     love for her home.

Your goodness—pure as a mountain stream,

     giving life to its own.

Your holiness—beyond compare;

     deity--true and fair.

Your sovereignty amazes me.

     You manage all eternity.

                  Praise His blessed name,

The One who does not change.

                  And, love Him, all people.

Blessings

(a song)

Love, peace, patience,

     joy in my heart.

All this and more

     He promises at the start.

He gives us rainbows, blue skies,

               the sunrise,

          The seasons, so many reasons

               to believe…

Laughter, good times,

     friends kind and true,

Strength from His Word,

     and courage to pursue.

He gives us rainbows, blue skies,

               the sunrise,

          The seasons, so many reasons

               to believe…

Life everlasting,

        Blessings untold,

A new city in

       Heav’n, with streets of gold.

He gives us rainbows, blue skies,

               the sunrise,

          The seasons, so many reasons

               to believe…

Day Dreams

(a song)

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

Of future years, the joy and tears—

                        Yet to see.

I long to know, where will I go?

                        Who will I be?

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

God will I see, Your plan for me—

                        Day by day?

Sometimes I fear, but You are near—

                        Just lead the way.

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

My later life, husband and wife—

                        Will there be?

Single or pair, Your will is fair—

                        I trust in Thee.

Day dreams...on my mind.

Wonderin’...sometimes...

My Night-Watchman

(a song)

If Jesus protects me by day,

     Shows me the way,

          Helps me to pray,

Then surely, He’s with me my night,

     Calming my fright,

          Holding me tight.

Jesus promised once I’m His,

He will never leave me!   1.

His Word, so dear, says,

   “Love casts out fear.”  2.

So, heart—be still!

          Trust in His will.

Come To My God

(a song)

Are you sad, are you lonely?

    Do you worry or complain?

Are you afraid of dying?

    Do you live in pain?

Turn to God.

Come to my God, open your eyes,

Confess your sin, drop your disguise.

Come to my God; He’ll understand.

He’ll hold you tight in the palm of His hand…

Are you happy with yourself?

Do you pretend to be strong?

Can you stand up for good—

Or, do you do what is wrong?

Turn to God.

Come to my God, open your eyes,

Confess your sin, drop your disguise.

Come to my God; He’ll understand.

He’ll hold you tight in the palm of His hand…

Do you know how to love?

How to give, how to share?

Tell the Lord you need Jesus—

He will teach you how to care…

Turn to God.

Come to my God, open your eyes,

Confess your sin, drop your disguise.

Come to my God; He’ll understand.

He’ll hold you tight in the palm of His hand…

If you think you can go

Through this life on your own,

You will die without Jesus—

    And, you should have known…

Turn to God.

Come to my God, open your eyes,

Confess your sin, drop your disguise.

Come to my God; He’ll understand.

He’ll hold you tight in the palm of His hand…

                        Come to my God.
